Travel Tips
Getting to Molokai can be a challenge, but well worth the effort. There are no direct flights from anywhere outside Hawaii, so you'll have to connect in either Honolulu or Maui. Molokai Airport is a public airport located about 7 miles of Kaunakakai, on the island of Molokai in Maui County, Hawaii, United States. It is the principal airport of the island. Mokulel Airlines and Island Air fly between Honolulu and Molokai. Some hotels provide complimentary shuttle service to and from the airport. You may also arrange for a private charter on Marjet Hawaii. In their sleek King Air E90 you could be in Molokai from Honolulu in just 20 minutes.
Local Time
Molokai is on Hawaiian Standard Time, two hours earlier than the West Coast (Pacific Standard Time), and five hours earlier than the East Coast (Eastern Standard Time). Unlike the rest of the U.S., the Hawaiian Islands do not observe Daylight Savings Time. That means that during the summer months, Molokai is three hours earlier than Pacific Daylight Time and six hours earlier than Eastern Daylight Time.
Getting Around
Since there is no public transportation on Molokai, you will need a rental car or a taxi to see all the beautiful sights. Arrange car rental in advance, and pick up your car at the airport. Driving is pleasurable in Molokai. The scenery is spectacular (particularly in the east) and there's little traffic. Watch for playing children and for mongooses, who dash across the road in front of vehicles.
If you're visiting Maui and want to come to Molokai for a day or several, you can get here from Lahaina on the Molokai Ferry.
